5 Ways You May Be Inadvertently Hurting Your Hair

Also, avoid styling wet hair in an updo, and let your hair down as often as you can.

3. Over-Brushing Your Hair

Brushing your hair too much can pull it out of your scalp, and can cause an increase in shedding. Try to be as gentle as possible when you brush your hair, and don’t use too many strokes to get the job done. If you have a habit of brushing your hair with a hundred strokes every day, it can result in damaged and even thinning hair! Additionally, be sure to replace old brushes as needed, since worn-out ones can do a lot of damage.

4. Over-Shampooing Your Hair

Shampoo is designed to get rid of all the grease and dirt that’s accumulated on your scalp, but too much shampooing can cause damage to the hair cuticle and sometimes even result in hair loss. Try decreasing the amount of times you shampoo your hair to every other day, or even to just a couple times a week.

5. Bleaching Your Hair

If you bleach your hair regularly, you will ultimately cause lasting damage. Powerful chemicals are stripping your hair of essential nutrients, making it weaker and less healthy. Eventually, bleach will cause your hair to become so brittle that it breaks. Try giving your hair a break from the bleaching, and if possible, ditch the bleach completely and find a different style that doesn’t require it for healthiest results!
