How to Care for Human Hair Wigs

Choosing the right wig is a significant process that is often much more involved than we usually think it is. There are all sorts, but many agree that human hair wigs are the highest quality and will give you the most natural and attractive look. But how do you take care of a human hair wig? Is it just like maintaining your natural-grown hair? Well, there are some similarities and there are some differences. Today, we’re going to walk you through four different categories of care for human hair wigs: storage, cleaning, drying, and styling.

When you aren’t wearing your wig, it needs to be stored on a wig stand or wig block in order to keep it from getting tangled, misshapen, or damaged. Keep it in a dry, cool location away from moisture, dirt, mold, and direct sunlight.

Begin by brushing the wig through with a wide-tooth comb, starting at the ends and making your way up to the cap. Wash the wig using a gentle shampoo – make sure to choose one that doesn’t contain a lot of chemicals. You should avoid shampoos like Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Clairol, and Sauve.

You can wash the wig by either submerging it in water or by placing it under running water. We suggest consulting a hair care professional, because the method depends on what type of wig you have. Condition the wig frequently by smoothing product over the hair, and avoid a rubbing motion. Clean the wig regularly to keep it shiny and looking healthy, and follow any other cleaning directions you’ve received from your specialist.

Use a microfiber towel to gently pat and dry the hair. Avoid squeezing, wringing, or rubbing. Once you’ve gotten rid of the excess water, place it onto a stand to dry. This should be a second, smaller form that the one you use for storage because you do not want to stretch out the wig cap. If you don’t have a smaller form, you can use a household item like a can of hairspray. Gently arrange the hair of your wig into the position you want it to dry. Don’t comb, brush, or blow-dry the wig while it’s still damp or wet.

To style your human-hair wig, use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to gently tease out any tangles. To help avoid static, you can apply leave-in conditioner, wig mousse, or even water spray. This will also help moisturize the hair and keep it healthy. At this point, you can style the wig however you like – use hot rollers, blow-dryers, curling irons, and straighteners – but just like styling your natural-grown hair, stay aware of the level of heat you’re using. Blame Hormones in the Food Supply for ED and Cougars?

Older women are partnering up with younger men, and the reason isn’t just about their more desirable youthful appearance. It’s about the oldest motive in the book: sex. Older women tend to have full, active sex drives, but what about older men? Unfortunately, men are experiencing a decrease in sex drive after their twenties and an increase in impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED), and it could be in part due to what they’re eating!

Sex drive, erections, and orgasms require hormones to be finely balanced in men. This means normal testosterone levels, estrogen levels, and thyroid levels. Yes, you read right – estrogen is present in both women and men, and like all hormones, it works in perfect tandem and balance with your body. Think of your body as a delicate ecosystem all unto itself, and when one of the working parts is disrupted or changed, it can spell disaster for the whole. This is what happens when hormones in our food throw off the balance of our body’s natural hormones.

Foods that are high in the hormones prolactin, estrogen, and progesterone are known to cause not only a disruption in a man’s normal sex drive, but also ED and breast enlargement. These hormones are present in all dairy products, as well as in legumes such as soy. Also, while it may seem to make sense to increase your consumption of foods with testosterone, this may also throw off the balance of your hormonal environment and cause sexual complications.


We advise you eat no more than 2 servings of red meat per week, because it’s high in fat and has been genetically engineered with high levels of testosterone. This could cause your body to gain weight and put stress on your heart, which also increases your risk of ED and low sex drive. In fact, the extra fat cells in your belly will convert testosterone into estrogen, which interferes with your normal balance of testosterone/estrogen.

Furthermore, if you’re eating foods packaged in cans or plastic, watch out! This packaging is lined with a chemical called BPA, which has been found to decrease sexual desire and increase your risk of developing ED, infertility, and other hormonal disorders. If you’re purchasing food contained in plastic or canned packaging, make sure its label says “BPA-free” to lower your risk of developing these health issues.

The hormones in our food supply are meant to help us enjoy inexpensive high quality animal proteins, but on the whole it seems they present an uncomfortable amount of health risks. For men, this includes lowered sex drives, impotence, and other sex-related health problems.
