Should men color dye their custom hairpieces?

mancolordry.jpg

It is generally well-known that it is possible to dye human hair extensions and pieces (keyword “human hair” here). But, it takes a stylist with experience in coloring hairpieces to get it right. The chemicals and history of that hair is different than your own, which means you’ll have to employ a different process for coloring or dyeing them.

While the idea of dyeing a hairpiece sounds acceptable, should men do it? There are a variety of men’s custom hairpieces that come in different lengths and color, so finding the right color to make your own natural hair shouldn’t be too difficult. But if in the event you cannot find the right tone for you, or you just want a change and do not want to bother with buying a different hairpiece, then let’s consider these scenarios first.

  1. You won’t have much hair to test on. It’s normally advised to stylists that before they go in and give you a full color treatment, that they first test a strand of hair. While that technique may work on longer hair, chopping off an unwanted strand of hair is bit too obvious on shorter lengths. Our solution? Have another hairpiece on hand, separate from the one you have on, for the stylist to test on.
  2. Once your hair is color-treated, that’s it. Experts say that coloring is damaging to the health of your hair, but people are okay with this because healthy hair grows back. But for your hairpieces? Not so much. Our solution? Keep the number of times you dye your custom piece low, or be ready to invest in purchasing more pieces in the future.
  3. Consider non-toxic hair dyes. Now, less-harsh chemicals do not necessarily mean less-damaging to the hair, although these products do seem to boast the idea that it is less cancerous. But the fact that non-toxic hair dyes are not as permanent as their chemically-heavy sisters, it does provide a good argument for being an all-around safer option for your hairpiece or extensions.
  4. Maybe you just need a new hairstyle. Are you bored with your hair because of the color, or maybe it’s because you haven’t had an experienced stylist on your hair before? Sometimes, a different cut or style can make a world of difference to how you perceive your own look. You can just avoid the dye altogether!
