Wigs are a great hair replacement method for people who are experiencing all different kinds of hair loss. Whether you’re a cancer patient going through chemotherapy, or a person inflicted with alopecia areata or trichotillomania, having a wig can help you regain that confidence in your image and make you feel like yourself again.

We here at HRC pride ourselves in carrying lace front wigs, which are a very popular choice among many who wear wigs. Lace front wigs create the look of natural hair growth along the front lines, which means that they can be styled back if you want! Your hairline will look so natural that no one can tell that you’re wearing a wig.

The Best Hairstyles from the 86th Academy Awards

The red carpet at the Oscars 2014 in Los Angeles have never looked better, and the hair that graced the screens were no exception. From Jared Leto to Cate Blanchett, the nominated (and winning) actors and actresses once again employed stellar Hollywood hair stylists that will set the trend for 2014.

As they say, all "nominees" are winners in our book! HRC has kept their eyes glued to the screen looking for amazing hairstyles. Here are our four favorites:

Sally Field
Source: TheAcademy

At age 67, the legendary actress who we all "really really love" looked amazing in her gown, but what really blew us away was her full hair. A classic, layered haircut that was perfectly framed to her face, Sally Field wowed us with healthy-looking hair. Giving a very inspirational speech only moved us even more.

To achieve her hairstyle, you could use hair pieces underneath your hair to give a full, voluminous look. Add just a few, big curls tossed with some light hairspray, and you've got this classic look. See the variety of hair extensions options available to you from HRC.

Jared Leto
Source: Zap2it

Long hair for men is back in style this year, but one guy that particularly stood out was Dallas Buyer's Club Oscar-winning supporting actor, Jared Leto. We were definitely moved by his speech dedicated to his loving mother, but no one could get over the fact that this 42-year-old man wore long hair better than some of the women!

To achieve his sunkissed-ombre (or a manbre as some would call it) locks, men could add hair pieces or extensions to their hair. But since most men tend to lose hair at the top, you should try virtual reality hair, which is a hair replacement method that involves no surgery, and is much used in Hollywood and by other hair elites. Click here to get more information on this revolutionary technique.

Baby-bump-friendly gowns took to the red carpet this year, with Scandal actress Kerry Washington looking luxurious with a nice, full head of hair. It's not uncommon for women to have healthy hair during pregnancy, as the rise of estrogen promotes hair growth. However, after delivery, it is common for women to experience hair loss. Telogen effluvium, the second most common form of hair loss seen by dermatologists, occurs normally 1-5 months after pregnancy, when estrogen levels fall back to normal.

Kerry Washington showed up with a half-up/half-down hair style, with nice curls at the bottom. Try adding hair extensions to your hair to give your style a full look like hers. If you want to curl it, be sure to get natural hair extensions (like we use) instead of synthetic, as those would be damaged if you put hot metal to them.

Just because hair is short, doesn't mean that hair can't be styled. Supporting actor nominee for 12 Years a Slave, Michael Fassbender showed men everywhere that you can sport a messy look with short hair without looking like a California beach bum. On top of that (or rather, at the bottom of his look), Michael sports a full, great-looking beard, which is also coming back into style these days.

Men with hair loss who get virtual reality hair with us at HRC can also get this look and style it the same way as if it was your own hair. Read more about it here.

What hairstyle at the Oscars 2014 blew you away? Our staff here at Hair Restoration of California can help you achieve the look you want. Call us today to schedule a free hair consultation.

4 Vitamins and Minerals for Healthier Hair

Dietary changes and certain supplements have been prescribed for people with health issues for a long time, and people with chronic hair loss are no exception. While vitamins and minerals alone cannot restore hair to its fullest, it's still important to concern yourself with health to positively impact your hair.

 b2ap3_thumbnail_vitamin_pic1.png  b2ap3_thumbnail_vitamin_pic2.png

Although supplements and multivitamins are great ways to get the nutrients you need daily, they are not a substitute for a healthy diet. Eating foods rich in these vitamins is the best way to get your recommended intake. Taking these pills however is still beneficial, as long as you take the right dosage. Check this wonderful article on multivitamins and see if it's right for you.

  • Vitamin D: Recent studies have highlighted a correlation between Vitamin D deficiency and hair loss, particularly in women. This vitamin is known to help with the health of hair follicles. Getting vitamin D is as simple as standing out in the sun, but if you're sensitive to UV rays, the n try eating mushrooms, fatty fish or egg yolk.
  • Vitamin B complex: A fancy way of describing all water-soluble vitamins (except C), vitamin B is known to have a variety of health benefits. One of them is to promote healthy skin, nails and shiny hair. While all the different variations of B are found in a large array of food, try focusing on nuts, brown rice, eggs and green vegetables.
  • Iron: When it comes to restoring hair growth, iron seems to play a big role. While having an iron deficiency doesn't necessarily mean hair loss, not having enough iron in your blood can make it worse. Try eating more meat, egg yolk (noticing a trend here?) and dark leafy greens for the best impact.
  • Zinc: The last mineral in the alphabetical array of nutrients should not be last on your list. Zinc also provides a variety of benefits, and can be easily found in red meats, poultry, fish, whole wheats and dairy. Did you know that there are actually shampoos that contain zinc? It's that good for hair restoration.

However you decide to get your nutrients, remember to always consult with a doctor to ensure your health.

Looking for hair loss treatment opportunities in Los Angeles, while plentiful, can be confusing. While a quick search on Yelp will pull up many vitamin shops and restaurants with tons of leafy greens, finding a hair care doctor should be easy. The staff here at HRC in Los Angeles are extremely knowledgeable and eager to help you with your hair restoration needs. So, contact us today for a free hair consultation appointment.

Solutions for Hair Loss as a Result of Alopecia

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that results in the loss of hair. It occurs when your immune system accidentally attacks your hair follicles, although scientists to this day do not understand why. This disease affects almost 2% of the entire U.S. population and it happens more often to younger people, although anyone at any age and gender can be affected.

Alopecia is also cyclical, meaning hair can fall out and then regrow over time, and fall out again. Only a small percentage of people affected with alopecia may never regrow hair again, and that depends on a variety of cases, like family history, onset of the disease at a very early age, extreme hair loss, among other things. In some more extreme cases, loss of body hair may also occur. Please talk to a hair loss clinic to see if you may be susceptible to alopecia totalis.

The disease is diagnosed by a doctor through a series of questions inquiring about your family history and your own pattern of hair loss. A small physical examination may be required. If the diagnosis still remains unclear, then a blood or hair test may be employed.

While there is no cure yet for this disease, a number of people diagnosed with this have found inspirational ways to live a wonderful life. It’s understandable that a person losing their hair on and off again can be frustrating, and many people have reported feeling anger, loss and grief, among many others. But there are a variety of products, methods and hair replacement techniques to help those affected.

Rogaine and Propecia are the only drugs approved by the FDA for hair loss treatment. Surgical methods like hair grafting and hair transplants are available as well, but for those seeking non-surgical hair replacement methods in Los Angeles, come visit HRC. We are the only LA-based hair replacement clinic to offer virtual reality hair, a new, non-surgical hair replacement solution. No, it’s not a game! Read more about this innovative way men are treating their hair loss. Women can also learn more about Virtuesse, a care-free, high fashion, non-surgical wonder that is natural looking.

The Best Hollywood Hairstyles from the 2014 Golden Globes

Award shows are always a great place to catch a glimpse of what’s trendy (or going to become trendy) for hair. You may have watched the 71st Golden Globes for the films, but we were looking at the red carpet for the hottest hairstyles in Beverly Hills!

This year’s hairdos were a varietal mix of high and up to long and elegant. At least, it was for the women -- we’ll also feature our favorite men’s hairstyles as well. Let this list be an inspiration for your next haircut or style whenever you come in for treatment!

Ah, America’s beloved woman, Jennifer Lawrence refreshed the carpet with a soft and whimsical pixie cut. This is a great cut for women with soft features, or who simply just do not want to deal with a lot of hair! Jennifer may have chopped off her locks for an upcoming film, but we simply can’t get enough of this hairstyle. (Though, her dress may be a different story).

Leonardo DiCaprio, who won Best Actor for “Wolf of Wall Street”, may also receive Best Hair in the men’s category. Men can’t go wrong with a class comb-over, but Leo’s slicked-back style takes us back to the days when dapper men ran rampant (alright, maybe a little excessively speaking).

Actress Emilia Clarke graced the red carpet with a delicate and dainty hairstyle. This loose-curled hairstyle never goes out of style and is always a classic look that frames any face well. Try this style when you’re out for some casual errands, or even turn heads as you dine out in glamorous Hollywood.

If you have short hair, but you want to have this look, you can try adding some hair extensions to add length to your style. Curl the pieces and you’ve got instant volume!

The silver fox look for the silver screen -- actors like Michael Douglas have embraced grey and made it an elegant statement. Whoever said that grey hair looks old? It can look rather dashing, and studies have shown that women view men with gorgeous grey hair as mature and sexy.

Also, for having gone through chemotherapy for his throat cancer diagnosis in 2010, he’s still sporting a pretty good head of hair. In an interview with Oprah, he said he was actually more concerned about losing the ability to speak than hair loss. Though we’re unsure whether he sought out hair loss treatment following his radiation therapy, we applaud his full recovery and healthy hair!

So, no matter what hairstyle you’ve locked your eyes on in this red carpet, remember that attaining gorgeous hair can be easy, and it’s our job to help you get it. Come in today and let us know what celebrity has inspired your next hairstyle!

Full head of Silver Hair?? Why Not!

Full head of Silver Hair?? Why Not!

There is a renaissance underway in Hollywood for films catering to more, let's say 'mature' audiences. The silver screen's 'silver-hair boom' (link to BBC article) started with the sleeper hit 'The Exotic Marigold Hotel' which starred Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and other luminaries of cinema and stage.

The film, made on a relatively small budget, became one of the surprise (and hugely profitable) hits of 2012, making over $130 million at the worldwide box-office. Suddenly, amongst the plethora of superhero films and 'tentpole' action franchises, Hollywood has realized a huge, unfulfilled gap for older audiences hungry for more grounded, meaningful films. In short, silver is trendy and the common threads are many, but none as obvious to our keen sense as the trend in maintaining a great head of hair as you age.

As more senior stars re-emerge in the spotlight, it's obvious that silver is trendy, and maintaining a full head of hair into the golden years is more important now than it's ever been. New developments in hair restoration methods mean you can now take advantage and achieve the everlasting presence of film stars like Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Geoffrey Rush - who also starred in another success amongst older audiences, the Oscar-winning 'King's Speech'.

At HRC, we pride ourselves on keeping a pulse on the latest trends in popular culture, as they often lead the trends in hair. We offer personalized hair restoration to match the colour of any hair (including those with greying hair) so you can get the look of the silver screens silver-haired greats.

We treat all types of hair loss and our hair replacement systems are virtually undetectable to sight and touch. A full head of natural looking hair has helped the old-new guard of films stars shine again. We don't see any signs the trend will slow down, so book your free consultation with us today and find your own hair-renaissance.

HRC Changes The Way Women Think about Beauty Enhancements

HRC Changes The Way Women Think about Beauty Enhancements

HRC offers women Risk-free, Reversible Enhancement

With the increased safety of many procedures, and the promises of longer-lasting beauty, it's no surprise that the plastic surgery industry has grown to record heights. With a steady 5% growth from 2012, over 14 million procedures were performed in the US (Plastic stats -

For women undergoing peels, botox and other minimally invasive facial procedures, one key part of their face and beauty is often left behind - hair!

As many women begin considering surgery in their 30's, so they should consider hair restoration treatments to fully complement their beauty routines.

Being key reproductive years, the 30's are also an age where hormones and naturally-occurring prenatal vitamins can lead to hair loss. Women in their 30's typically have lower-density hair at the top of the head, and begin seeing a loss of colour and texture if they have spent their lives colouring their hair.

The result for women out of plastic surgery procedures then, is that their faces look young while their hair ages - creating a less than desirable look, and reducing the real value (and money spent!) on expensive plastic surgeries.

So what's the solution?

After spending money on plastic surgeries, the last thing you want to worry about is more difficult-to-reverse beauty treatments.

HRC has a great history of partnering with top plastic surgeons in Los Angeles, many of whom refer their patients to us for hair treatments that match their surgical operations.

The great news, and ultimate advantage with HRC's cutting-edge hair restoration treatments, is that all of our non-surgical enhancements are completely reversible and easily adjustable. Our treatments allow clients to adjust for colour, density, texture, highlights until they are satisfied.

If clients are still uncomfortable, our procedures are fully reversible to their natural hair. HRC has only the highest quality stylists and colourists in the industry.

Even with the highest quality hair restoration, some women may still benefit from minor surgical hair transplant - often around the hair line. HRC works closely with US Hair Restoration, a prominent hair transplant establishment, to provide a truly complete service for your hair restoration needs. These combination treatments are being developed with US Hair Restoration's Dr Mohebi - one of the pre-eminent surgeons of the Los Angeles area. For more information on our treatments and services with US Hair Restoration, visit Dr. Mohebi's blog here.

Women undergoing plastic surgery often neglect correct hair treatments to match with their surgical work. Without consideration of the right hair restoration and hair treatment, many dollars are wasted not getting the best effect from plastic surgery. HRC works closely with women who have gone under the knife, and we have a host of non-invasive, completely reversible procedures customised for your hair, to make it look truly healthy and vibrant. HRC Leads the Way in Innovative Hair Replacement for All

HRC Leads the Way in Innovative Hair Replacement for All

There was a time when hair replacement was considered a cheap, and often-noticeable way to hide hair loss. However modern developments in hair replacement technology have made hair replacement virtually undetectable - most importantly giving coverage to the top and crown of the head.

In this day and age, even some of the biggest names in Hollywood with seemingly excellent hair, have in fact undergone hair replacement - we're not naming names!

With the refinement of hair restoration processes, and the significant advantages in the technology which allow fully customizable hair - an 'as you wish' system - it makes sense to combine hair replacement with more traditionally respected hair transplant systems.

We at Hair Restoration California are proud to announce our partnership with Doctor Parsa Moehbi and US Hair Restoration. Apart from being a Medical Director, Dr. Mohebi is one of the most recognized hair transplant surgeons, having served Los Angeles for over 20 years. Our partnership recognizes the need for some patients who undergo hair transplant procedures, but do not have enough donor hair to get a full head of hair from transplant.

This combination treatment is particularly useful for many patients who are at the higher stages of hair loss, particularly on the Norwood Scale VI and VII classes.

So how does it work?

Patients who represent more advanced male or female hair loss will find great benefit results-wise and financially through our combination treatment. A solid hair line will be created through transplant which densely packs a smaller surface area. All other areas of the scalp not covered by this transplant will be restored through HRC's world-leading hair system. The most important fact is this: our hair system is made from actual human hair matched precisely to the patient's existing hair.

Using safe medical-grade adhesives behind the hairline (and undetectable as a result), the hair system is attached and integrated with the hairline. Although the hair system requires some maintenance, patients can still enjoy lifestyle activities such as swimming, sports and outdoor activities.

All this adds up to a single fact: across the entire spectrum of hair loss patients - there are now truly great solutions for ALL patients experience patterned hair loss. With our combination treatments, in partnership with Dr. Mohebi and US Hair Restoration, we're proud to be at the frontier of helping all our clients be the best they can be.

30 million women in America experience hair loss

30 million women in America experience hair loss

As an age-old defining feature of health, success & attractiveness, radiant hair is second to none. A defining point of personal image and style, our brains are wired to notice distinctive hairstyles - think of the Jennifers (Aniston or Lopez), Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Palin or Christina Hendricks.

But people aren't just watching from the sidelines, they're talking with their wallets too. Americans spent over $20billion combined in 2012 on hair care services (SBDC Market Research, 2012), and with increasing stress of modern lifestyles and increases in female baldness, that figure is sure to rise - along with the need for affordable hair replacement options for balding women.
